Robin Day reclining chair
This is Robin Day's Reclining chair 1952. Produced by the furniture manufacter 'Hille'.
These original 'Hille' examples are increasingly hard to find. This example was owned from new by Day's favoured photographer Tony Mann who took the photos for the 'Hille' brochures. He created the 'floating' look that Day was after to best showcase his modern, light framed designs.
After the war living space was more of a premium and the mid-century designers eschewed the heavier pre-war furniture look in favour of a lighter contemporary aesthetic.
This example is all original but re-upholstered with Mourne textile favoured originally by Day.
