Painter of portraits, still-lifes, landscapes and poster artist. Born Newark. Studied at Bushey and in Paris at the Academie Julian. Father of the artist Ben Nicholson. Lived in Newark (1892); Uxbridge (1895); Woodstock, Oxon. (1901); London (1905).
